Update:Moving Forward.

Hey Guys,

Just a real quick post to fill you in on what’s up and what’s coming in the next month or so:

I HAD originally thought I’d set up a WordPress site and embed ComicPress which is software a lot of indepent Web Comic artists use when they put out their stuff on their own site.

Unfortunately, that software utilized php which isn’t supported by Office Live Small Business (soon to be Office 365) who have been hosting my business site for several years now.

So, I had to find a solution wherein I could use what I already have (as opposed to taking on an  additional expense that I can’t afford). This would mean not only hours but DAYS of combing the web to find the software I needed that would allow me to present the book in an attractive, readable format that could be viewed online and then purchased should someone decide they wanted to do that.

So, found the software that will allow me to put out a flipbook of each issue of the ATCON webcomic. Took a little learning on my part, but luckily, the software maker actually has a Youtube tutorial that you can follow step by step that WORKS!

I also found out how to work it so that when people come to the ATCON Page of what will be the NEW site (yes, the OLD site is still there, and will be until the book is ready to launch), they can click a thumbnail of each individual issue, get the flipbook version that they can read online. OR, click on the PayPal button and purchase a zip file of the book that they can download and store on their own hard drive and then read at their leisure( be advised, it will still open in a browser for viewing).

I have already gotten Book 1 Part 1′s flipbook completed, but as with anything, I’ve come to understand that there is still a bit of editing to do-One thing that needs to happen is that we need a dedicated logo for Lens Cap Publishing with a versions for both the web comics AND the print versions of our graphic novels etc,.

I also realize I need to put something on it to say that it’s the “premiere edition” (So, people see it for the big deal that it is). Anyhoo, here’s the current version of the WebComic cover:

I think I’ve fallen too in love with this cover because I don’t want to add to it.

This to me works really well for Issue#1 as it gives the idea that the book’s a bit on the “dark” side without giving anything away-Or, at least, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Anyhoo, now that I’ve worked out how to deliver the content in a way that won’t “break the bank” at this stage of the game, I’m ready to get back to creating content-My intention is to be at least 2 books ahead of my audience to allow for those unavoidable “shit happens” moments.
Case in point: Just as I was beginning to work out just how I wanted to put ATCON out there, I ran into problems with Windows Vista which required me to spend the better part of two days backing up data, wiping my hard drive and then restoring Vista-This AFTER I’d had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Vista a month ago due to some “viral” issues.
So, on top of researching and working out what needed to be done to move foreward on this project, I’ve also been caught up in a massive reinstall that I’m STILL working on (gotta reinstall all my custom fonts that didn’t come with Word 07 as well as some background textures, etc,).
But, I DID say when I started this blog that it WAS NOT to be dedicated to complaining, so let’s drop that.
The ATCON Webcomic will debut at the end of next month, which should give my Editor, Cathy enough time to give me her notes on Issues 1 AND 2 (and hopefully, 3) as well as allow me to make any needed changes and get the new site ready.
So, that’s what’s up at present. which means if I don’t get to post again until right before the New Site/Web Comic launch, you know why.
Take care guyys.
